THROWBACK //
I love when I can find a knit dress that is both comfortable and chic. They make for the best travel outfits by adding stylish sneakers and a trench or utility jacket.
Question: Did you have any fashion or retail experience prior to working at Gap HQ?
Answer: I had one internship in fashion, but no serious work experience in the field. Working at Gap HQ immediately after school was my first real corporate job. I think needing retail experience is a big misconception about working in fashion. Outside of the actual designers and tech designers that I worked with, almost no one on my teams at Gap HQ or Tory Burch HQ had a degree or extensive background in fashion. Most of the people, like me, went to school and studied a broad subject, and were interested in fashion, so pursued careers in that space. Many of the most talented people I have worked with over the years did not study fashion, but were naturally creative, had vision, and were strong leaders. And many of the entry level candidates I have interviewed and hired also didn’t have an extensive fashion background, but showed incredible passion, strong work ethic, and had a desire to grow within the company.
